Leur restauration a été dirigée sous l’autorité de "La Maison du Patrimoine", programme en charge de la sauvegarde du patrimoine architectural de Luang Prabang, sous l’égide de l’UNESCO.

Luang Prabang, ancienne capitale royale du Laos, se niche au cœur d’un superbe site naturel, une péninsule entourée de montagnes, à la confluence de la Nam Khan et du Mekong. La ville est dominée en son centre par le mont Phousi.
Selon la légende, c'est la forme en montagne de riz du mont Phousi, surmonté d’un flamboyant, qui décida deux ermites
à bâtir une ville à cet emplacement.
Le premier royaume lao, le Lan Xang - "million d’éléphants", fut érigé en 1353 par Fa-Ngum. C'est à cette époque que la capitale prit le nom de Luang Prabang: "le grand Pha Bang" en l'honneur de la statue miraculeuse du Bouddha, le "Pha Bang", offerte à Fa Ngum par la monarchie Khmère.
